The end of June marks the end of QE2. So what does that mean for the US economy? Is the dollar going up or down? Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, they are all making quite a splash in the headlines today. Of course there are so many conflicts and wars going on, it is difficult at best to keep track of them all. So how do you protect yourself? Should I buy Silver now?

Let’s go back to the year 2000. The price of silver was around $5 per ounce. In fact silver stayed at the $5 level for years. Never the less, Wall Street and the media kept talking up the stock market. Stocks seemed to be the right investment to be in! Remember when the Dow back then was a big deal at 10,000? Today the Dow is around 12,000. So in 11 years or so the stock market went up to give you about a 2000 point gain. That gain is about a 17% return over that time. Silver on the other hand has risen from $5 per ounce to around $35 per ounce today or about a 560% return over that time. Continue reading ‘Why You Should Buy Silver Now’ »

Most of us have read the headlines and have seen the Dow Jones Industrial Average declining for the 6th straight week (as of Friday June 11th, 2011). This is the longest continuous decline since 2009 and has many investors worried about the state of our economy and the chance of a “double dip”. Most investors are understandably skeptical about committing money to the market at this time. However, if you have an adequate time horizon for your investment and are willing to search for value, now could be a good entry point. Continue reading ‘Investing in a Declining Market’ »

Mutual Funds are one of the top investment choices for investors of all ages and styles. A mutual fund is effectively a group of investments bundled together under a common name and managed by professionals who seek to maximize the performance of the fund as a whole. It can provide a full spectrum of investments ranging from safe to risky and targeting a broad swathe of industries and can hedge against market shifts in one sector while simultaneously buying into a boom. Internal fund trades are managed in such a manner that an amateur investor doesn’t have to closely analyze the specifics of each and every investment within the fund. What’s getting hot tomorrow? Which stock will pick up and which will go down? Is the USD going to raise against EUR? These are the thoughts that don’t let the short-term investor sleep.

Why worry?

Short-term investing is a gamble. It certainly works for some. But usually not for me. And not for you I guess. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this. Forget short-term investing. Let’s talk about five things that will be hot in the next 50 years. The following is just my option and is not a financial advice!

1. Virtual properties. The internet is reaching more and more people and devices every day. It’s already developed but there is a lot of further growth to expect. If you invest in good web sites, software products and mobile apps you may see a lot of growth in the next years. You may think 50 years is a lot of time and most sites won’t be there. For sure they will not exist in the same way as today. Don’t think they will disappear though. Nowadays there are sites from the beginning of the web which are still around and kicking. For example Hotscripts started in 1998 and is still here. Almost an eternity compared to the age of the web! Continue reading ‘5 Great Investment Ideas For The Next 50 Years’ »

In the present time, nothing can be trusted to be original. And when it comes to buying gold one has to over cautious. This is because gold is highly expensive and buying gold coin is one of the best ways that one thinks of when it comes to investment. This is very unfortunate that there are a lot of duplicate producers of the gold coins in the market, which have almost flooded the markets with these fake gold coins. In the earlier times one was not required to think about the genuineness of the gold-coins as there were hardly any fake ones. But now the situation has completely altered. One has to pay a lot of attention as most of them are duplicates. Continue reading ‘Gold Coins – Buy Carefully, the Original Ones’ »

A collective investment structure used to make an investment in a number of equities and to some extent debt is known as private equity funds. These types of funds are generally limited partnership for a term of 10 years. At the commencement, institutional investors undertake to make an unfunded pledge to the partnership of a limited company, which is then careworn over the entire term of the private equity fund.

Like mutual funds in India, even a private equity fund is also raised and managed by a bunch of investment professionals who are employed by a private equity fund management firm. Ideally a single firm manages a series of different private equity funds and as part of their work will also attempt to raise new equity funds every 3 to 5 years.
